There is much more to an athlete than just speed and power. A great athlete has the character to go with the talents that God has given them. Become Great.
This is the easy part. It's just you and your body. Mind over matter. Push yourself and you will see results. You will get stronger and faster. Now you are on your way to becoming a good athlete.
But is this utltimate goal. Why not strive to become great?
All good things come from God. This includes talents and abilities for life and athletics. In order to truly respect and appreciate these gifts we must know and understand the one who gives them. It is our desire at USM that, through our bible study classes, athletes will obtain the knowledge and understanding from God’s word that will insure the proper development and respect for these talents.
For with God nothing shall be impossible. - Luke 1:37
Building strong character is like building a strong wall. Just as a wall is built one brick at a time, character must also be built one test at a time. Like the wall battered by the storm, life tests the walls of character.
Mistakes in life are inevitable. However, the stronger our foundation the better equipped we are to withstand the tests we face. Through Christ’s teachings and life experiences taught by our pastors, mentors, and coaches at Uplift Sports Ministry, our goal is to help prepare our athletes to stand in strong character through all they may face.
Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
1 Timothy 4:12
"Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximise their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be."
Eric Parsloe, The Oxford School of Coaching & Mentoring
What you have heard me teach publicly you should teach to others. Share these teachings with people you can trust. Then they will be able to teach others these same things.
2 Timothy 2:2
As part of our development of young athletes, Uplift Sports Ministry offers the ability to attend Bible study classes as part of every training session.
This will be a time of sharing the gospel of Christ as well as learning the biblical approach to training, competing, leadership and character development.
Community pastors and volunteers lead athletes in small group biblical studies and discussions.
It the desire of Uplift Sports Ministry to bring athletes from all sports as well as all schools together as one. No matter what athletic team, training experience, or biblical background, the desire to compete is the common link between all athletes.
Here at Uplift Sports, we believe our integrated system of training and ministry provides our athletes with great opportunities for developing new and lasting friendships that transcend the boundaries of districts and school colors.
Learning to push oneself is not enough to become a leader. A true leader must learn to motivate others. Helping athletes learn to develop their God given talents and abilities while helping others develop is a priority at USM.
